This was an actual thought I had today

I know that little will transpire from me bringing this up except that all of you will think I'm that little bit more crazy, but it was interesting enough so I'll just mention it anyway.

In my expos and research class, one of the guys was talking about how warm his phone was- neither of us knew exactly WHY it was heating up, he hadn't been using it, but it was just the same. So I made a joke about how whichever company it was, probably Samsung, had invented a new and awesomer phone for people: a phone with a built in microwave.
It would be, needless to say, probably the single most amazing and simultaneously impractical thing ever created by human hands. You could make little with it except bacon. Maybe really thin pancakes.

But the embarrassing thing is that it couldn't have a name. The realization was a tragic one.

Pity, though- it would have been a pretty cool idea.

It's like a Swiss Army knife of mad skill

So you all know by now (hopefully) that I'm an artist, and I love pencil drawing in particular. Admittedly they're all rather one-track-minded, but that's fine because I think they're awesome anyway. :P

At any rate, I also really enjoy photography, but I've never had enough money to devote to buying a particularly high quality camera. So what's happened up until recently is I've had to resort to using my cell phone camera (it's pretty useless, but that's not much of a surprise.)

Here are a few of the "good" ones I managed to capture with that 1.3 megapixel camera:

They're all right, but it would still be much cooler to be able to take pictures of PEOPLE with an ACTUAL CAMERA.

Well, it seems that good fortune was on my side a few days ago, because I got a text from Katie Duncan (see an earlier post for what she looks like) saying "Come be our photographer!"

Some of the freshman swimmers had decided they wanted to do a photoshoot, just for fun. It was a pretty cool idea, but I couldn't really take part because I don't own blue jeans (more on that later, possibly) That was fine by me- I was happy to be the picture guy.

So I got to use Hillary's camera! Admittedly it's not as good as the REALLY expensive ones I had gotten to use with the NHS art department, but it was leaps and bounds better than the one I had.

Here are a couple of my favorite shots that I took:

Oh, also bear in mind that since this was Hillary's camera, she didn't upload everything. So a couple of the really good ones never made it online. Boo.

Anyway, the pictures, for real this time:

By the way, introductions, from left to right: Taryn, Katie (you already know her), Daniel, Hillary, and Cali (you already know her too).
I had to basically steal him for this one. But I'm a huge fan of how it turned out.
This last one is my favorite by far, for obvious reasons. It's just so freaking great. Thanks to the people in it for setting up such an awesome composition!

I need a camera. I also need to do my homework. Oops.

It's Irrational, I Know

Yes, I am slightly afraid of orange candy. Or for that matter, almost anything orange flavored. Does it make sense? No, but it's still true.

Orange colored things are scary.

I don't really remember very well when this fear first began per say, but there are a couple of possible reasons I've narrowed it down to. They are as follows:

I probably can't speak for the entirety of humanity when I say that Ernie haunts the dream of little children, but you can tell by the way his soulless eyes pierce your soul that he's probably not just interested in playing with rubber ducks.

You can run, but Ernie always knows where you're going so he'll be there when you arrive. THERE IS NO ESCAPE.

Then there are tigers. My brother, Stephen-

- that's Stephen- but anyway, tigers are his favorite animal. The background on his computer is a tiger. It's a pretty cool picture, admittedly, but... I mean...
Am I the only one who seems to think that tigers are always that one mental step ahead of us? Because that's the look they're always giving. They just sort of watch when you're looking at them in the zoo. Other animals normally do their own thing, but no- not tigers. They just lie there, eyeing you, and they're like "Ah, yes... He's the one who picks his nose even though he's 20! Gregory, did you hear about that one time he fell trying to catch his dog? T'was a very good show, I heard. Let us fetch some tea!"
Finally, and possibly the most terrifying, is some freaky kid. There has probably not been a more annoying creation ever to laugh maniacally at humanity, but regardless I feel compelled to share. I apologize if this makes any of you cry, and I hope that you'll forgive me for letting this horror show its face.

If you know anything about Naruto, it's that he drives any competent human to the brink of insanity with all of his nonsense about what he thinks ninjas should be. They should fight for their friends, and stand up for what's right! Never give up, even when you've been beaten down for the last 4 or 5 episodes by the same guy and then miraculously beat them in the end!

WRONG. Ninjas don't fight each other, they're all on the same team. Any indication otherwise is trickery of their own design. Ninjas can't get hurt. If a ninja wanted to kill someone, it would look like this:

That was slowed down considerably for dramatic effect, too.
Real people don't mess with ninjas. You can't, because it's impossible to find them. If Naruto is a ninja, then the queen of England is a burrito riding a yak.

And yet for some reason, there are people out there who are obsessed with him. THAT'S why he scares me- because he's so terrible but apparently captivating at the same time.

There you have it, that's why I'm afraid of orange stuff. There are a couple of exceptions, though- orange juice and orange sorbet are pretty good. That's it. Don't ask me why.

And..... I also drew a giant robot! I was going to work on the ninja picture some more, but I got distracted, and... this was the result.

I love me some giant robot.

I also heard something from a pretty reliable source that the Andy's guest post is almost done, so if you're still looking forward to that then rest assured- you don't have to look forward to it for as long as you did before.

Until next time, over and out.

Code Orange

I'm going to write down a couple of different ideas here at the top so that I can just come look at them if I ever need a good one. Feel free to judge.
-people i know here at college
-the orange candy thing
-art (oh yeah, whatever happened to "art blog"?)
-swim team

Something really bizarre happened today. My facebook got hacked somehow! I was just sitting there at my computer, minding my own business,
When all of a sudden, Hillary called me over and said "Hey... uhm.. did you send me some link on facebook just now?" I was pretty sure I hadn't, but I walked over to her computer and sure enough there was a link on her page from me. I was confused, but not really concerned or anything- it was probably just a bug on her computer or something, right?

Well, when i got back to my computer,

...I found out that well over thirty people had been sent a similar message. I don't know how whoever it was managed to get onto my account while I was logged in, but it bothered me. I spent the next ten to fifteen minutes frantically trying to inform everyone on the endlessly stretching chat bar at the bottom of my screen as to what had happened.

To all hackers: STOP IT. You're inconvenient.

Codename: Generation Y

This is going to sound really weird, but here goes-

Tonight I hung out with some guys for the first time in college. No girls. It was interesting.

No, I'm not trying to say that I'm a ladies man or a pimp or whatever, because that's just clearly not true. I... well...

Oh, you know what I'm trying to say.

It was a great time though. For me at any rate, there's only so far you can let down your guard with girls- yeah they're nice, yeah they're fun to be around, but there are few things in this world like just watching The Matrix and lazing around in someones dorm room playing Halo while being with other guys.

I feel like I owe you people another teaser for the ninja fight picture, but... I think i'll just put up another slightly older picture I found on my scanner when I unpacked it. I think it's pretty cool personally.
You have three guesses as to what inspired this picture. And for the record yes, I do love that tv show.

The one thing about this picture that bothers me: look at the face of the guy on the bottom. He's supposed to have this scar on his face, but it ended up with him just looking like his nose protrudes out into eternity.

Other than that, though, the picture is fine- and so in my book it's a hit.

I will close tonight (this morning... curse you, 1:15am) with a couple of things: one, that the bag of skittles in my room is starting to bother me. I've eaten all of them except the orange ones, and since I'm neurotically afraid of orange candy, it's an issue.

I also discovered for number two that Cali will chase the little red dot on the ground laser pointers make. It's hilarious, I promise. Try it some time.

For those of you who actually read the guest post I made for Ari, I apologize, this is going to look a little familiar. Feel free to actually comment on this one, though. :P

#10: Anything on my iPod not listed below
The way that I get my music is actually a little pretentious- basically I listen to the radio/ Pandora for about a month or so, write down the names of all of the songs I really liked, and then I go buy them. I haven't fully warmed up to the idea of buying albums yet.
And for those of you who are going to ask, no, I don't use any of those "music sharing websites" or limewire or any of that crap. I get my music the legitimate way.

#9: Bad Romance, Lady Gaga
The reason this is here is because back in Needham over the summer I went on some day trips with one of my good friends. He's a bit of a music nut, in a good way, and so we frequently ended up listening to techno music, Gogol Bordello, Mumford & Sons, lots of other bands...

And Lady Gaga. It's an acquired taste, I guess.

#8: Dynamite, Taio Cruz & Ludacris
Ugh. Youtube has failed me badly on this one- there were no good recordings. For better results, buy it- it's a good song.

#7: Dreamscape, 009 Sound System

#6: Animal I've Become, Three Days Grace
I know that I don't normally pick the music videos, but this was the best recording of it I could find. Sorry if it's bizarre.

#5: I Don't Care, Apocalyptica
There's something about a hard rock band that uses chellos that appeals to me. Why? I dunno, it's cool.

#4: Awake and Alive, Skillet

#3: Hero, Skillet
What? TWO Skillet songs in a row? Well, yeah, they're a great band.

#2: Going in Blind, P.O.D.

#1: In the End, Linkin Park
The actual music video for this song is just plain old weird. It's got some egyptian looking stuff, flying whales, very obvious green screening, etc. That doesn't stop this song from being at the top of my list, though. It's awesome. I listen to it before I race for swimming to get the ole' adrenaline going, and it works.

And there you have it. Musics!! :)

I for one am still anxiously awaiting Andy's guest post, whatever it may be. Come on, lazybones, get you act together. Seriously. I must have checked my email at least five times looking for it. :P

Oh yeah, that reminds me, art exists. Speaking of art! I'm working on this picture right now of a bunch of ninjas all fighting each other- it's a pain in the butt since I hate drawing faces, so I have to figure out how to make different masks for each one, and outfits, and weapons, etc etc. But in the end it'll totally be worth it since ninjas are awesome.

Uhm but yeah, I do apologize for disappearing like that, I've been really busy these last couple of days for no readily apparent reason. If this keeps up then I'm thinking that the whole blogging-every-day-thing is going to rapidly fade into the past, but I will certainly devote an appropriate amount of effort to seeing that this doesn't happen.

Here's a sample of that picture I was talking about, by the way. I really like this guy in particular, and yes he does look a lot like this other character I have.

Yes, that's a ninja. Don't argue. He's awesome. Ninjas are awesome. Therefore, he's a ninja.

No, that doesn't mean this principle applies to all things that are awesome. Just him. Seriously, people.

One last thing, before I go: if anyone ever has any ideas as to some topic they'd like to hear about, by all means TELL ME. It's not as easy to come up with all of these ideas by myself.

..this post had a picture! I'm really happy about that, actually. I hope you guys are too.

Until later!

Sunday, September 5, 2010

I know I haven't updated in a while, but I have a couple of reasons for not doing another post today.

First of all, I'm very sleep deprived. It's a long story but it ends with me being sleep deprived.

Second, I already did a post today! Well, it was a guest post, and you can view it here:
...but it absorbed a gratuitous amount of my creativity for the day. If something particularly interesting happens, I'll write about it later, but for now don't be surprised if I disappear again.

I actually do feel kind of bad, but I can't live at my computer, after all.
